Kutch – Literally meaning wet and dry, a largest district in India of Gujarat state, covers an area of 45, 674 sq kms. In rainy season, a large part of this area submerges in water and also becomes dry during other seasons. It is surrounded by Arabian sea from south to the west. There are 97 small rivers in the area, most of which flow into the Arabian sea. 20 major dams and numerous smaller dams to capture the rainy season runoff. The district is very well connected by air, rail and road transportations. Most of the people of the region are Hindu or Jain, hence the food is largely vegetarian. The region is rich in several minerals, cement, salt, textile art and forestry.
