Sasan Gir – Sasan Gir, popularly known as Gir National Park is spread in an area of approx. 1412 sq km. Established on 18th Sep 1965, its main objective was to preserve Asiatic Lion which are found in a large amount here. The park is also residence of Monkeys, Nilgai, Antelope, Chinkara Gazal, Wild Boar, Jackal, Sambar deer, Chital spotted Deer, Langoor , Striped Hyena, Chowsingha (four horned) Antelope & various birds – Black Drongo, Common Kingfisher, Green Bee eater, Indian Robin, Oriental Magpie Robin Woodpeckers, Flamingo, Bonelli’s eagle, Indian Paradise flycatcher, Serpent eagle etc. Amidst the sactuary, be ready to hear the holy chants of Mata Kankai or Shri Kankeshwari Mataji, the goddess who is a savior of the shepherds roaming in the forest. Not to miss is the Grand Devalia Gir Park Safari which lies about 12kms west of Sasan Gir. This fenced compound covers an area of about 4 sq km. Devalia Safari on a bus is a must-try for nature and wildlife lovers.
