Somnath – One of the holy sacred pilgrimage of Hindus, this temple is located in Gujarat’s Saurashtra region. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga’s of Lord Shiva. The name “Soma” meaning “The Lord of Moon “ which is Shiva who heads it on his twisted knots of hair. It is also famous for forming a Triveni Sangam (the confluence of three rivers – Kapila, Hiran & Saraswati). Soma, the Moon God (Chandradeva) is believed to have lost its lustre as a curse. Then he bathed in the sangam to regain it. The present Prime Minister of India, Sh Narendra Modi is the Chairman of the Somnath Temple trust.
